Accidentally cool

Well it did end up snowing. We got about an inch. As we were getting ready for church, I mentioned to Chad that we probably needed to take his truck, which was parked near the bottom of our driveway. Chad said we'd be fine and that it wasn't icy. We piled into the van and I began to back down our driveway.

Our driveway is steep and has a narrow curve at the bottom which is hard to maneuver. It is difficult to back down in good weather and most people who come over park on the street. As I back down I hit ice. I slam on the brakes - which is the first no-no on ice - and we begin to slide. Knowing that I am going to either hit the cars parked in our parking area or slide into the ditch I try to stop the car. After a very trying five minutes, I manage to get the car stopped so that I can get out to let Chad drive. Chad of course backs out like a pro.

I am now stranded on the driveway in heels. (Did I mention it is steep?) I take one step and begin sliding. As I slide, I'm thinking "this is NOT going to end well." If I try to stop myself, I am going to fall. It is going to hurt. I am envisioning broken bones. I put my hands out for balance, and by the grace of God, I "surf" about 25 feet down the ice to the bottom of the driveway. Of course, the girls thought it was the coolest thing ever and wanted to get out and try it.

Funny how cool you can be when you're not trying! :)
